This Place, This Moment

Every year, the NMH Fund provides opportunities for our students to live, learn, and act with humanity and purpose. Every dollar donated goes to work right away, making a difference in our classrooms, across campus, and beyond.

In the Classroom

In Humanities I, generations of students have tackled the foundational questions “Who am I? What is my place? What does it mean to be human? How, then, shall I live?” In environmental science, students use the campus as a living laboratory for hands-on study of environmental science concepts. In statistics, they learn how to use data to understand and address complex social justice issues like gerrymandering, while in English, they explore topics like power, identity, and resilience through analysis of literature.

Across Campus

Throughout the academic year, distinguished alums and other visitors engage with students and faculty in conversations about citizenship and leadership, such as discussions about the importance of civic engagement and the role of journalism in facilitating social change. Student leaders demonstrate NMH’s mission in action, from the EcoLeaders organizing youth climate summits to Resident Leaders creating positive, supportive atmospheres in the dorms. Through workjob, every student does their part to make the campus run —  harvesting produce on the NMH farm for Alumni Hall, keeping buildings clean, managing an athletics team, and much more.

Beyond Campus

NMH students benefit from opportunities to take part in immersive learning and service opportunities beyond the campus. Through our travel program, students engage with other cultures in meaningful ways through service opportunities and study of the arts, literature, history, religion, language, and environmental, socio-economic, and political issues in places like Belize, Peru, Brazil, and Japan. Some students teach Spanish or French to students at local elementary schools. Others volunteer on local environmental projects, at food pantries, and at other service programs.

None of this would be possible without the NMH Fund. Donations to the fund make it possible for our students to explore their passions, discover their purpose, and engage in learning experiences they never thought possible.

Today, in recognition of the support provided through the NMH Fund, we pause to express our gratitude for NMH — our people, our programs, our campus, and our mission.
